LOS ANGELES-

The Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a structure fire at a Valley Village apartment building this morning, an incident that tragically resulted in one civilian fatality.

At 10:25AM on October 30, 2025, the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 11900 block of W Kling Street in Valley Village.

Firefighters arrived to find a two-story, garden style apartment building with smoke showing.  Crews immediately initiated an aggressive offensive fire attack and roof operation.

While extinguishing the fire, crews conducted a primary search and located an unresponsive person. Unfortunately, the 90 year old man was found to be beyond medical help and pronounced dead at the scene.

A total of 44 firefighters, working under the command of Battalion Chief Amy Bastman, achieved knockdown in 21 minutes. There were no other reported injuries to civilians or firefighters. Crews prevented the fire from spreading to any additional units, allowing residents to return to their homes.

The cause of the fire remains under active investigation by the LAFD Arson and Counter-Terrorism Section (ACTS), as is protocol for fires involving a fatality.

It is unknown at this time whether the structure, a 26,859 sq. ft. building constructed in 1969, was equipped with functioning smoke alarms.

Identification of the deceased and the official cause of death will be handled by the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).
